The Friends of Deerfield are pleased to announce that the jewel altarpiece of the former St James Church, Augustus Vincent Tack's "The Deposition from the Cross," a large, 100-year-old oil painting mural, will be fully restored and redisplayed in Deerfield during 2026. Anyone interested in participating in this historical preservation project and any supporters interested in making a donation should immediately contact Friends of Deerfield via email.

Update: August 6, 2026

The latest update today is that the Painting has been transferred to be hung on the studio wall for cleaning

Update:  July 26, 2026

Gianfranco & Corrine, along with the staff, have provided some initial photos of the restoration work. 

Update: April 17, 2026

Friends of Deerfield, along with Gianfranco Pocobene & Corrine Long from his studio, with support from community members, successfully removed the Mural from the former St. James Church. The Mural is now at Gianfranco's Studio and in good hands.
